Underground Railroad- Local Connections
April 16, 2021
7p.m.
Our presenter, Kathy Bilger, is a local historian and genealogist. She is on the Board of the Friends of the Governor Warner Mansion, you will often find her in period clothing giving tours of the mansion and talking about local history. She loves to write scripts for cemetery walks. Kathy has an article coming out soon in Michigan Chronicle Magazine about a speakeasy discovered in Farmington.
When not doing history stuff, she is in the garden, behind the camera, or playing with her many pets. Her whole family is involved in history with a son who is a classically trained archeologist turned veterinarian, a son who teaches Modern American History, and another son who studies WWI and II plus Japanese history. The entire family participates as judges with the Michigan History Day competition each year. Kathy has been selected as both a State and national judge for History Day. We are looking forward to having Kathy share her passion for history as we learn about our local connections.
Tickets are available on line at SFH.Ludus.com
The ticket price: Attend in-person is $10.00 or $5.00 per person virtual.

Wire Beaded Art Hanging
Two Classes-
May 13 (6pm)
&
May 16 (4pm)
Join us for some wire and beading fun to create this beautiful piece of art.
Payment is not due at this time. You will have the option to pay by check or credit card. Further details will be coming mid April. Material and Venue fee is $35. Placing an order today will reserve your seat.
All of the tools and supplies will be provided to create your bead hanging. Several different colored beads will be provided. If you would like, you may bring some beads of your own that might be special to you and incorporate them in your piece. The workshop will require you to design on your own with some basic Instructions on how to wire it up. You will go home with a finished piece. Great for hanging indoors or out. ( I recommend under a covered porch out of nature’s direct elements)
Detailed description of mechanics:
You will be able to chose from a variety of dried branches with predrilled holes and the eye hooks already in place. You will receive 6 pieces of pre-cut wire….1 for the top and 5 for the bottom. You will be supplied a set of wire pliers to attach and wrap the wire on each eye hook and make a wire at the top for which your work will hang. You may bring little trinkets from home to use but it must have a beading hole. If you bring something like a shell or other object that does not have a hole, you must know how to wire wrap as this is not a wire wrapping class. I have been beading for 20 years but only know basic wire wrapping skills.
If you are not confident that you can do this with basic instructional skills, please feel free to have a friend purchase a ticket and join you, we should have fun! After this class, you will definitely have the confidence to create again!
At this time, it is still required that you are masked up for the duration of the class and you may want to bring your own covered beverage as there is not a drinking fountain in the facility.
Material and Venue fee $35
